I am thinking of upgrading some parts of my pc.

https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=4895427&WishListTitle=ShadesOfGrey

Here is what I selected. I went this route because I really want to be able to go SLI one day. DO I need to? No.... but it is not always about needs.

Comments? Suggestions?

Nice, I have not made a major upgrade in years! Maybe I can convince my CFO that WE need to upgrade. CFO = WIFE :D

I"ve done a few E6600 systems and I'm getting ready to spec mine shortly. I'll take a look at it when I get a chance. I HIGHLY recommend that you stay with an Intel chipset.

I've used the P5W DH Deluxe and its a fantastic board. I've never achieved the best performance from an Intel chip with anything but an Intel Chipset.

As well as a generic 500W PSU.

Question?

If I use the P5W DH Deluxe mobo, would I be able to go SLI one day ?

I don't think it will let me.

Well I've order some of the parts. The RAM, cpu cooler, PSU, and Video card.

I will be ordering the rest tonight it seems. It is turning out to be a great Christmas.

For the price of the motherboard you spec'd you could get the one from ABIT and be much better off for the future.

The 975 chipset will allow you to upgrade to quad-core in about a year, I don't know about the NVIDIA chipset or it's ability to upgrade later. Intel has specifically designed the 975 chipset to upgrade to Quad core with a BIOS update.

Just some 2 cents....

I ended up getting the mobo I spec'd from zipzoomfly. 200.00 with shipping. (40.00 cheaper than newegg)

I decided this way because I really want the option to go SLI .

But I do appreciate the input.

Its a Cross Fire mobo, so yes, bu tyou have to use ATI.

Well... I may have dorked on that one. I sort-of forgot about ATI. And I jsut read that they finally came out with an crossfire solution that connects inside the case too.

Oh well......

Honestly two lesser cards will cost you more than one good one. The SLI option, will intersting, just doesn't hit things at the pricepoint. PLUS the heat it creates and the power you need.

Agreed. It's just one of those things that might be fun to do. Of course it is all mute at this point as I have ordered the parts and should have them all by Friday. I will just have the one card and maybe someday I'll go SLI, but in all likely hood, I would not do that. I would be more likely to up the RAM than anything else.

Well now...I think I recall mentioning the X1900 or X1500 or whatever it's called...the top of the midline priced cards.

But noooooo...you didn't want an ATI. :D

So, I track the first two packages via ups yesterday. And I am all jazzed that they are delivered before I get home from work. But when I get home, I can't find the boxes. I ask Mrs. Shades where they are and she points to under the Christmas tree. And she stated that the rest of the order that is being delivered today will also be put under the tree.

I guess it will not kill me to wait a few more days..........

But it might....... I will spend this time backing up the important stuff on my pc, and gathering all the SW for the new rig.

Now as I was driving to work, I figured that I really ought to go and get something extra nice for the spousal unit since she ok'd the purchase of these items. I had already found a good box with a hole in it..... But I prolly ought to get a real gift instead of one she might ask If I kept the receipt.

Given that Mrs. Ranger does not read this forum I will share an idea for a gift that I am getting her:

<img src="http://www.salonvenessa.com/images/salon_menu1.jpg" height="813" width="321">

The massage prices are quite reasonable at $75/hr...so I plan to get her a gift certificate for one or two...depending on how much $$$ I have left. :)

How this has anything to do with computer parts...I have no idea.

I think the term is "greasing the skids"

As in if we don't we will all be using a 486 in the near future.

I did a full spa day for Mrs. Carnage last year. It scored brownie points for a while.

This year she's getting <img src="http://akamai.edeal.com/images/catalog2640/folder17052/img4004402.jpg"</img> If she doesn't like it I'll use it :)

Yeah, back in the day, when we used to live in Tampa, I'd send Mrs. Ranger to the Safety Harbor Spa for a day package as a gift for like birthdays, Mother's Day, Valentines...that kinda thing. Very nice place.

Now, here around the sprawling megalopolis known as Woodstock, there is no comparable facility that I can afford and that is within a reasonable distance.

I am, sort of.

However, Euro has spoken for the whole lot. I will confirm with him. If he does not want it, I will let you know.

So I ordered my new rig. This is what I have on the way in. I'm mixed on the video card but figured what the hell. It will be 150 bux after the rebate. At the very least I can use it as a spare if I have to :) I downgraded the case a tad as well trying to conserve some money.

TC,

Let me know how that Motherboard installs. I was looking at that one and read some scary stories about the WiFi and not being able to turn it off when you want.

Although out of all the 975x boards I have looked at, that one looked the best...

Well, I got all the parts and built my new rig Christmas day.

Everything went together very nicely and this new rig demolishes my old one.

Old Rig 3dMark06 score : 1806
New rig 3dmark06 score: 5987

woot!

Sweet, that should be the board I pickup then.

Grats Shades, sounds like your new system is rocking...
