TC, you mentioned that there is a way to disable this service so I can stop the annoying pop up ads that I get everyday. Is it possible you could spare a moment to give me directions in laymans terms for what I need to do. I looked in windows help and support for XP but being a big dummy I could not fully follow what they were instructing.

Thanks

Go to start>settings>control panel>administrative tools>services

Open services then go to Messenger in the list...double click it then hit stop service then set it to manual. This will stop the popups

WE are talking about the windows Messengers service for NT. Basically he's getting pop up ads sent via the Server Messaging tool. Disabling the tool (which is useless in most home environments) will stop this. That or get a firewall. :)

Thank you very much. Damm that would have taken me like 2 hours to find after reading all the articles and trying to decipher the jargon I don't always understan. Thanks TC and all, you don't have any idea how annoying those damm things are.
